On April 8, 2004 Belmont High School held its first ever Rock concert. It was truly amazing. I don't know how long it's
been since something like this has happened at Belmont, but I'm glad I was able to make it happen.
The show started when students that purchased tickets were released to the auditorium and greeted enthusiastically at the
door by some of the Hilltopper staff. Ticket stubs were collected and eager rock music fans were ushered into the auditorium
and into their seats.
As soon as everyone was seated Ms. Stier officially started the concert with her routine speech followed by Dustin Loy's
(Guitarist for opening band BREAK-OFF) rendition of Jimi Hendrix's "Star Spangled Banner". The patriotic song launched immediately
into an introduction, which was an instrumental part of Mudvayne's "Mud Shovel". Our own Robo Cop flounced himself upon the
stage and BREAK-OFF went into their set, which consisted of "Paint It Black" by the Rolling Stones and"Every Breath You
Take" by the Police.
Next up, Emesis Falls took the stage, causing girls to scream out at the band's drummer, Adam Raffield. Emesis Falls began
to perform three of AFI covers. I, as well as the students, can agree that the Hilltopper couldn't have picked two better
opening bands.
Last to take the stage was the local Dayton band, Waking Kills The Dream. We were linked to Waking by Ms. Allen, the art
teacher in room 127, whose son is Aaron Allen, is the guitarist for Waking Kills The Dream. There really are no words I can
use to describe the performance they gave. You just had to be there, but I can tell you this, if you paid the four dollars
to see the show, you may have been part of one of the coolest things ever to happen in the Dayton Public School District.
